Bella Got Ahold of a Razor
Let me preface this by saying that it’s not as bad as it sounds and we’re not horrible parents. I don’t think.
Bella gets into everything. Every. Thing. So we recently discovered that she can reach the top drawer in our bathroom. We thought we had removed anything that may be dangerous but apparently there was a stray shaving razor in there.
So we we were all in our bathroom...

Bella turned 1 on May 4th. It’s hard to believe an entire year has gone by. This video covers the four months leading up to her birthday.
A whole post devoted to her first birthday party is coming.

Josh Oswald
Josh Oswald and I have been friends for years. He’s always been an encourager, supporter, and friend. He’s driven and flown more miles than one can count to lend his many talents to Kristin and I. His drumming and mixing abilities always serve as fantastic excuses for us to hang out with one of our favorite people.
Happy birthday, Josh!

A plus sign and a vertical line
The Summer of 2009 was pretty crazy. I was in the middle of transitioning jobs and Kristin and I were still living in Sarasota but leading worship every Sunday at Access in Lakeland. It was a hectic, fun, and crazy time.
It was August 22nd. Kristin and I were enjoying a day off together in Sarasota when we noticed that our brakes were a little squeaky. I mentioned that I would get the brake pads...
I don't have to like it...
My friend Eric is moving. He’s moving to Washington. The state. Eric has told me that he’s moving to Washington multiple times but apparently this time it’s for real.
I met Eric about a year and a half ago. I was still commuting from Sarasota to lead worship at Access and didn’t really know everyone all that well. Then I got this Facebook message:
I told him to bring...
Worship Service Signals
While I was visiting my parents a couple of weeks ago my dad had to remove his old pulpit from a storage room at the church. In helping him move it I found these “Worship Service Signal” guides from one of his former worship pastors…These things are close to 20 years old.
By my count there’s at least 32 different hand signals. 32.

Could we with ink the ocean fill, And were the skies of parchment made; Were every stalk on earth a quill, And every man a scribe by trade; To write the love of God above Would drain the ocean dry; Nor could the scroll contain the whole, Though stretched from sky to sky.

Is Twitter the anti-DVR?
Major television networks have been talking aout DVR-proofing shows and commercials for a long time. On way they’ve done this on the advertising side of things is by making greater use of product placement. A really clear example of such product placement was Conan O’Brien giving away 20 Chevy Cruze’s. Each night in his program he would promote the contest by basically doing a...
Bad News / Good News
As you may know, while I was home visiting my family I found an old film camera and was really enjoying taking pictures with it and learning the ways of film. Unfortunately, a few days into our trip the film advance lever started grinding a bit and eventually quit working altogether. My grandfather and I took it apart to reveal an extremely chewed up gear…The camera was done for.

An Engaging Story
Some people say I procrastinate. Those people are correct.
That was certainly the case on August 13, 2006. I was getting dressed and ready to pick Kristin up from work. We were going over to St. Augustine to hang out for the evening and I was also going to ask her to marry me. The problem was I needed to leave in fifteen minutes and I hadn’t asked her dad yet.
When I got out of the shower...
Four Years Ago Today
I woke up, took this picture of myself, and posted it on my blog with the caption,“This is the last time I’ll ever wake up single”…Then I got all dressed up and married Kristin. It’s pretty much been the best ever since.
Happy Anniversary to us!
Pine Oaks Motel
This was our house when we lived in Palatka, Florida. We moved when I was five years old so I don’t have a ton of memories there.
I do remember that my brother’s room had amazing space shuttle wallpaper.
I remember that we lived on a cul-de-sac which I would circle endlessly on my bike.
My brother’s friend Jeffery lived across the street and a few houses down. For a period of...
Farmer John
At least once a year my family drives up to Hayesville, North Carolina to spend some time at my grandparents farm in the mountains. This has been one of my favorite places to go for years. It’s funny how certain things attach themselves to memories an experiences.
John Mayer has been releasing records in the fall for as long as I’ve been a fan of his. Every other November or so when...
Film Pictures
I found this old film camera in my mom’s garage while helping my dad this morning. My mom didn’t think it worked so I threw some film in it and gave it a try. I’m looking forward to taking more pictures and getting more comfortable with it now that I know it works!
This is the band playing around before service. I really love these guys.

Timing Is Everything
I’ve always been a big fan of playing with a click…It’s a huge part of playing well together as a band. In addition to stepping up the overall “tightness” of a band, a click also increases the effectiveness of effects because it brings them in time.
Anyway, you don’t have to break the bank to have a great click track that works well in practice or live. We use...
She’s very proud of herself.
Red Box
Twenty four years ago today my grandfather presented me with this homemade toy. I used to love switches, knobs, lights, and sounds. What baby doesn’t? So my super crafty electrician Granddad built this bright red box for me. It has a light with a switch and dimmer, and two different functioning doorbells. Now it sits in the corner of our living room and Bella loves it.
Moral of the story?

This is an actual voicemail we received at the church when we moved into our offices about a year ago.
Enjoy.
Eric’s phone is supposedly waterproof. We tested that theory yesterday at lunch.
Second Hand Rose
Today, Kristin and I went to our favorite Lakeland antique shop. We found this place several years ago shortly after we were married. At the time we were looking for a coffee table and we found one that was really old and beaten up…We decided we really liked it’s potential so we took it home, sanded it down, repainted it and gave the leather top a good coat of polish. It’s...
Thrifty Percent Off - Owl
I posted these on Facebook but thought I should post them over here too. Kristin and I found this owl umbrella holder on Urban Outfitters for $128. Then we found an extremely similar one at Salvation Army. For $8.

Team JoCo
Check it out! Team CoCo re-blogged my post from Grammy night! As of this moment it’s been “liked” over 400 times and re-posted a ton. It’s also done a number on my inbox for the last hour or so.
Tumblr App Wishlist
I love the Tumblr app for iPhone. It’s definitely one of the best mobile apps for blogging. That said, there are two missing features that could really take it to the next level.
Ability to manage multiple accounts. In addition to managing my own personal Tumblr blog, I also contribute to our church Tumblr. It would be great if I could manage both accounts from a single app. This is one of...
Be Lifted High
Bethel is the church in Redding, California that is home to some of the best worship in the country. They are the home church of Jesus Culture and of Bethel Music. I’ve been excited about this record release for month. I watched the live recording at iBethel.tv and we do a lot of these songs at church already. This is going to be one of the best worship records this year and it’s well...
A Love Story
Kristin and I have kind of an interesting story. I figured today would be a great day to tell it to you.
My dad is a pastor. His first senior pastorate was at a small church in a small town in Florida called Palatka. He started as the youth pastor and later became the senior pastor. I was born in Palatka. My mom and dad had a lot of really good friends in this small town. Among those friends...
Thank You
To Whom It May Concern:
Since you left your gift anonymously I thought that I should let you know how it all unfolded and express my gratitude for your extremely kind and generous gesture.
Today when we finished our second worship set I walked off stage and several people immediately told me that there was something for me in the green room. I was sure this was some kind of band practical...
Thrifty Percent Off - Mirror
We got this mirror at Salvation Army for $8. A quick coat of spray paint later and it looks like a million bucks!
